This quote by Melody Beattie, is only a piece of a very wonderful message. The entire quote goes like this,
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” –Melody Beattie (Author)
When I find myself complaining, it doesn’t take long to realize that I am nitpicking and am putting myself in a less than favorable mood. Sometimes I lose sight of what I have by putting too much focus on what I want. Planning for the future is necessary and can be a useful tool to improve motivation to meet your goals. BUT, if you are constantly thinking about your next purchase or how you wont be happy until you acquire some sort of object, you are not in the present moment and end up missing out. Our lives can become filled with schedules and to-do lists very quick but we are capable of slowing ourselves down and downright obligated to do so! If we don’t take the time to enjoy the present moment and to appreciate what we have (family, friends, a roof over our head, hot water, food etc) then where will our children learn it? Having gratitude, can change your mental and emotional state quickier than you may think. If you are having a rough day, do yourself a favor and think of a few things you are grateful for. Whether it be your health, your home, your dog or your children, I believe you will find great joy in appreciating these things/people and will have a change of heart.
So get out there and brighten the day by sharing what you are grateful for with friends and family!
